The Sanskrit word for ‘Jewel’ is ‘Ratna’, and those who have known Ratna Manjari Dash, Sr. Manager in Product Engineering at Nucleus Software, would value her in the same regard.
Her journey to this point, started in 2003, at a time when the IT industry had much fewer women and was highly male-dominated. The road was filled with challenges and obstacles, but her vision has always been laser-focussed on the way ahead.
On this journey, despite the changes that have taken place in her career, as well as in her personal life, her goal has been clear: find a way and keep moving forward.
Before joining the Product team, she worked in the Emerging Technologies Group, and her personal mission through these transitions has been to understand the product thoroughly, to be different and to stay updated. She believes that the key is to be confident and fearless, and her trajectory in the company reflects the same.
Providing value to the customer is a key priority that is common to both Nucleus Software and Ratna herself, and that is and will always be the primary driving force in the work that is done. During the current pandemic as well, Nucleus Software found the way, whereby the strategy was based on management-vision.
In her personal life, she had to realign and reorient her priorities after becoming a parent, and it was at this point that she understood the need for discipline and time-management, whether through reading or seeking mentorship.
After 10-11 years at an organisation, it becomes important to think carefully about one’s growth.
There were struggles during that period, such as how to upgrade, and at that point, she advises reaching out to upper leaders and HR as they would help to provide actionable insights on how to move forward.
She has helped, supported and encouraged her team members through some of these challenging moments, and one of them even successfully joined IIM Bangalore.
Her advice to newcomers is to remember two things in life:
“Money is inevitable.
Be honest with yourself, work hard, and whether it takes 5 years or 8, remember that you will get there.”
